Abstract

Fenomen urbanog toplinskog otoka predstavlja porast temperature u gradskim područjima zbog Sunčeva zračenja i specifičnog načina na koji su gradovi izgrađeni. Ovaj učinak obično se pogoršava porastom antropogenih aktivnosti. U ovom diplomskom radu prikazana je upotreba satelitskih snimki za procjenu temperature površine tla, izračunavanje vegetacijskog indeksa te identificiranje kritičnih područja. Istraživanje se provodilo na području Podravine. Satelitski sustav Landsat 8, koji sadrži termalni senzor, korišten je zbog svoje pogodnosti za ovaj tip analize. Usporedbom rezultata lako su identificirana područja s promjenama u temperaturi tla. Ovim istraživanjem posebno su analizirana područja na kojima se pojavljuju toplinski otoci. Istražena je povezanost između gustoće vegetacije i temperature površine tla s ciljem ispitivanja mogućnosti smanjenja učinka urbanog toplinskog otoka poboljšanjem biljnog pokrova. Isto tako, prikazana su područja s visokim stupnjem kritičnosti, kao i ona koja su tijekom cijelog promatranog razdoblja zadržala visok stupanj kritičnosti. Korištenje satelitskih podataka može biti vrlo korisno za razna područja, poput planiranja gradova, sprječavanja nasumične urbanizacije i kontrole deforestacije. Na kraju, važno je istaknuti koliko su današnji besplatni softveri, poput QGIS-a, jednostavni za uporabu, a daju vrlo dobre rezultate.

Abstract (english)

The urban heat island phenomenon is an increase in temperature in urban areas due to solar radiation and the specific way in which cities are built. This effect usually worsens with increasing anthropogenic activities. In this thesis, the use of satellite images for the assessment of land surface temperature, the calculation of the vegetation index and the identification of critical areas is presented. The research was conducted in the Podravina region. The Landsat 8 satellite system, which contains a thermal sensor, was used due to its convenience for this type of analysis. By comparing the results, areas with changes in soil temperature were easily identified. This research specifically analyzed the areas where heat islands appear. The relationship between vegetation density and land surface temperature was investigated with the aim of examining the possibility of reducing the urban heat island effect by improving plant cover. Likewise, areas with a high degree of criticality are shown, as well as those that maintained a high degree of criticality throughout the observed period. The use of satellite data can be very useful for various fields, such as city planning, prevention of haphazard urbanization and control of deforestation. Finally, it is important to point out how easy to use today's free softwares, such as QGIS, are, and that they give very good results.
